Soccer Challenge

The Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge is sponsored annually, with the winners progressing through local, district and state competitions. International champions are announced by K of C international headquarters based in New Haven, CT on the scores from the state‐level competitions. Boys and girls will compete in their respective age divisions and all contestants will be recognized for their participation in the event. Participants are required to submit written parental consent. Forms will be available at the STM school and church or at the event. Forms can be emailed upon request. Bring completed forms to the event for processing.

Each contestant is scored on 15 kicks at a regulation goal divided into five scoring zones. NOTE: All winners will be required to submit a photocopy of their birth certificate to advance to district and state events. Winners of 8 and under DO NOT advance to any further competitions. E-Mail completed entry forms to: Tom Krall at tomkr@millerchitty.com.

The Contest: The Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge is a competition designed for players aged 9 through 14 to demonstrate the most basic of soccer skills — the penalty kick. Each player will be allowed 15 shots at the goal from the penalty line (12 yards from the goal).

Who is Eligible: Girls and boys ages 9-14 (a total of twelve categories)…Special 8 and under category has been added.
• 9, 10, 11 use size #4 ball
• 12, 13, 14 use size #5 ball
• Age eligibility is determined by the age as of September 1
• We are adding a special 8 and under to use ball size #4. Note: This group is specific to St. Thomas More Council 4397 and winners of this age group will NOT proceed any further in the competition.

The goal is divided into a series of five scoring zones. The upper corners of the goal will be designated as 20 point zones. The lower corners will be designated as 10 point zones and the central region is a 5 point zone.
To score this competition each participant will be given 15 penalty kicks. Points will be awarded depending upon the area of the scoring zones through which the ball passes.
